Victorville is located in the "High" Desert area of San Bernardino County and is positioned just north of the San Bernadino Mountains. The Victorville area is located 35 miles northeast of San Bernadino, 97 miles northeast of the metropolitan area of Los Angeles, 187 miles south of Las Vegas, and 146 miles north of San Diego. Victorville is known as the "Key City" and provides most of the sought after commercial area for surrounding Desert Cities. The Southern California Logistics Airport is located within the city as well as The Mall of Victor Valley, Jess Ranch Lakes, Victor Valley Community College, Green Tree Golf Course, two movie theaters, Jess Ranch Golf course and the Victor Valley Museum and Art Gallery. Surrounding area allows plenty of room for off-road action, and location is prime with surrounding mountain ranges for skiing during the winter season.

Calico was developed in 1881 during the largest silver strike in California. Located at the side of towering King Mountain, the town was named for the variety of colors in the mountain that were "as purty as a gal's calico skirt." Calico boomed during 1881-1896; but the end came to the silver rush in 1896 and by 1904 Calico had become a ghost town.
